Occre kit Nuestra Senora del Pilar ocean-going ship
The ocean-going ship Nuestra Senora del Pilar de Zaragoza was the successor to the Manila galleons. This was the name given to the ships that travelled the Acapulco - Manila route. This route was first travelled by galleons, but later larger ships were used. Acapulco was the port of departure and arrival. This ship was built according to the drawings and specifications of the Spanish admiral Gaztaneta. It was built in the port of Cavite and launched on 12 October 1731. It had two bridges, 50 cannons, a carrying capacity of 500 tonnes and a displacement of 1000 tonnes. The armament consisted of twenty-two 18-pounder cannons in the first battery, twenty-two 10-pounder cannons in the second, six 6-pounder cannons on the aft deck and ten 3-pounder revolving cannons on the superstructure and forecastle. The ship travelled the Acapulco - Manila route for twenty years.
The kit contains all the parts required for construction, step-by-step building instructions and various plans. Fittings are included extensively and in good quality. A sewn sail set is included but not a model stand.
